Ellesmere Shopping Centre Walkden

Project Description:

The £80million project involves the extension and refurbishment of the existing Ellesmere Shopping Centre in Walkden, Manchester. The project was constructed in phases to allow the existing facilities to remain open during the works.

Phase I included the demolition of an existing Tesco, construction of temporary Tesco store and the development of a new Tesco circa 14,000m2 with covered car park. The extension and refurbishment included a new 90m glazed atrium, mall and circa an additional 40,000m2 of retail space connecting the new Tesco to the existing shopping centre.

Also included in Phase I was the demolition and construction of a new KFC.

Phase II included the demolition of another section of the old centre to facilitate the construction of approximately 70 new retail units and two new covered goods yards serving those units.

VZDV was involved in the planning of Phase III which will involve the demolition of 13,500m2 of retail space to be replaced with new.
