Central Street Islington

Project Description:

Central Street is a new mixed use development in Islington with the enviable location close to the City’s banking district. This project consists of 303 dwellings within 7 tower blocks, including a mix of apartments for London Quadrant Housing Association and private apartments. The dwellings are a mixture of one, two and three bedroom units. All of the dwellings achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level IV. At ground floor and basement level is 4,800m2 of commercial and retail space. In order to comply with planning requirements the commercial space achieves a BREEAM Excellent.

The service strategy includes a biodiesel combined heat and power (CHP) unit with acting as a lead boiler and topped up/backed up with natural gas fired boilers. The centralised plant makes use of a central thermal store provided by water storage. General services include service and energy strategy, complete design drawings for main incoming water, telecoms and electricity, hot and cold water services, foul water drainage, power, lighting, access control, data, TV systems, lifts and fire alarms. The development is Section 20 and includes extensive natural and motorised smoke extract, basement car park ventilation and sprinklers.
