Waltham Forest Pool and Track

Project Description:

Waltham Forest Pool and Track is being rebuilt as part of the Council’s multi-million pound improvement programme to leisure facilities across the borough. The rebuild will give residents a brand new leisure centre with state-of-the-art sport, health and fitness facilities.

The scheme will make the centre one of the largest health and sports centres in London and will boast an impressive extreme sports zone complete with climbing wall, skateboard and BMX areas.

VZDV was employed by ISG to carry out the detailed MEP design for the new development. The project is currently onsite with an anticipated completion date for Spring 2016. The project is VZDV’s fourth with ISG following a number of successful leisure refurbishments schemes for ageing centres within the Borough (Plum Tree Studios, Leyton Lagoon and Cathall Leisure Centre). All again, located within the Walthamstow area.

The new building comprises a combination of mechanical and naturally ventilated systems, high frequency fluorescent lighting and underfloor heating to common areas. The primary source of heat is being provided by a gas fired combined heat and power engine (CHP) to satisfy the requirements of the GLA: London Plan (40% CO2 reduction), Planning and Building Regulations.

An array of roof mounted photovoltaic (PV) panels also makes this building one of the most energy efficient in its kind.

Keen swimmers will be able to take a splash in the new 25m, eight lane competition pool and VZDV played a key role in not only providing the MEP services design, but carried out the pool filtration and water treatment services specification as part of our scope of works.
